The Board of Directors needs your input on a proposal to allow people who are 19 years of age to join the Omaha Sports Club. The proposal will amend the membership definition in the Omaha Sports Club Constitution (Article III) and will be voted on at the Annual Affair. We would like your opinions on this proposal, so that we may publish “pros” and “cons” for your consideration.
The proposal made would change the language in Article III, Section 3
From:
“…and I am of legal drinking age, as prescribed by the State of Nebraska.”
To:
“…and I am of the age of majority, as prescribed by the State of Nebraska.”
The age of majority in Nebraska is 19, and it would not require any change to our insurance policy, because a 19-year-old person is not considered a minor child.
Concerns have been voiced with regard to parties and sports that are held at facilities where alcohol is served. However, as long as the event is held at an establishment that is licensed to serve alcohol, the establishment is responsible for ensuring that the laws regarding sale or consumption of alcohol are followed. The establishment has the right to refuse to serve, or require persons to leave an establishment as the law dictates.
