Well, who would think that Beer Frame would have fallen apart in the last three weeks of bowling? They had been in first place since week seven, and had a 46+ point lead in February. But, injuries, ailments and who-knows-what dropped the lead down to one point going into the final night of bowling.
Bowlwinkles' ladies Dee Dee Kovarik and Charlie Johnson, with solid help from Steven VanBibber, held up their team to win game one by eight pins, and game three by one pin. This was enough to give Bowlwinkles a 16-14 win over Beer Frame and win the league by three points, for a total of 506 points. We had fun although salt tears don't taste good in beer. (whine!)
To see where everyone placed, check out the Final Standings . Emails were sent April 24 to each team with team and individual performance stats. High games, series, averages for teams and individuals along with team payouts can be found on the 2009-10 Final Report. We had no team shortages this year thanks to the hard work and dedication of our treasurer, John Weyant. I cannot thank John enough for volunteering to act as our treasurer.
Games, series and averages awards are presented to persons who bowl at least 50 percent of the games (45 games in the season). Most improved male and female awards are based on the individual average from game 21 through the end of the season (as long as 45 games were bowled).
Jim Kovarik increased his average from a 144 at game 21 to a 156 at the end of the season. Kayla Weyant edged out Connie Distransky for most improved female going from a 133 to a 143 by season end. Kayla improved by 10.46 points, with a nice 521 series the final night of bowling, and Connie had a 10.32 improvement going from a 111 to a 121.
USBC Awards are awarded to sanctioned bowlers who meet scores against average requirements. Unfortunately, the USBC has significantly reduced their awards, having removed many of the non-score related awards such as all spare games, triplicate games and even tightening up some of the requirements for scoring awards.
USBC Awards will be handed out at the banquet. Regardless of USBC awards, I think a "way to go" should go to Andy Hunter who struggled to throw a gutter ball in the last frame of game three to have a 205 triplicate on April 16. He could have hurt himself!
I know a few teams will need bowlers for next year, and I am out there recruiting males, females and couples who want to join the league. We will determine next year's schedule, start time and cost at the banquet, and I will publish that information after the meeting.
See you Sunday - and after that - on the links.
