Our event at Fox Run in May was memorable. Fox Run gave us a great deal on golf and food and I'm sure we will play there again. But there were a few things that went wrong and things that didn't make sense.
First: It was very windy when we played. Although that was beyond our control, it made for a long day.
Second: There was a mix up in the flag holes and all the holes were marked incorrectly. When I requested to pick the flag holes, I didn't know that the front nine and the back nine were switched. The golf course failed to recognize the flag holes were wrong. For example, they marked a long drive for men on a Par 3. (I often select the flag holes because I like to have an even amount of flags for ladies and men).
Third: The dining room was extremely hot and humid. In fact, the air conditioner didn't appear to be even turned on. It was very miserable.
Fourth: (my personal opinion) I like it when everybody's name is on the scorecard, because I like to announce all the names on a team when a team wins. (Plus, I don't have enough brain power to remember all the names on every team).
Fifth: The steaks were good. Half the people liked their steak well done, but the other half didn't.
But, the golf course offered a free driving range in the morning, they let us bring doughnuts onto the golf course and they offered to fix any problems that arose.
My apologies to Mark Kiihne and his team. Someone on the golf course wrote a "phony name" on a flag hole and I automatically blamed the team that had a hard time keeping quiet while I spoke. You could tell Mark's team was having lots of fun.
The golf course was in great condition and the beverage cart was always there. So I decided gave our event at Fox Run a C+ rating.
Here's a funny story: My team (Dawn Bailey, Spencer Jacobs, Dave Hiatt and I) were playing fairly well (that's not the funny part). We had good drives, good second shots and good putts. We birdied a Par 5 and the next hole was a Par 3. The beverage cart came by and we all got drinks.
As we headed to the tee box, the guys (Dave, Spencer and I) hit from the white tees and Dawn hit from the red tees. Spencer had a great tee shot and placed it about three feet from the pin and we putted for another birdie.
As we walked off the green, someone said: "Weren't we supposed to hit from the blue tees?" Oops... You guessed it, we did the right thing, we all went back and re-hit our tee shots from the correct tees (blue and gold). We didn't birdie that hole the second time around, in fact we had to sink a six-footer for the par.
The flag winners were:
Longest Putt; Sue Moskovits. Closest 3rd shot; Larry Welch.
Closest 2nd shot; Pat Martinson. Longest Drive Men; Jeff Kurtz.
