Well, as reported last month, our first event went off with no problems… But our second event was anything but … rain on Friday night and on Saturday morning made me look like I had it all planned out. Come tee time, though, it was all clear and no wind. The two inches of rain the night before meant only one thing - the dreaded three words “cart paths only.” Luckily, it was only on six out of 18 holes.
This is the convenience of having your cart taken away: Hit your ball, drive the cart on the path, walk across one side of the hole (to usually the opposite side) to look for your ball and walk all the way back. Something that takes only seconds to do in a speedy golf cart now takes minutes (times that by six holes). It really makes for a slow day.
We had another problem with a slower group (to remain nameless) holding up two faster groups and some bad feelings towards me after. Let me stand up for the faster groups (it wasn’t your fault), but let me also stand up for the slow team (I’m still glad you signed up). I think this is something that plagues not only scrambles but leagues everywhere. You must either be considerate and speed up play or be patient and allow faster teams to play through.
Bent Tree did a good job of making us feel welcome. Plus, they donated some rounds of golf that I’ll award to the winners at Valley View.
