If you think back to late July, you’ll think of the heat spell we had and probably the miserable golfing weather we had, too. We started golfing pretty early that morning, so we were lucky to miss some of the heat. The golf course suffered lots of grass damage from the heat, but the weeds greened up pretty nice.
Valley View was pretty generous with some free passes; I hope you’ll get one and return when things cool down. They were also nice enough to donate four bottles of wine from the Valley View Vineyards (a prize to be given to four golfers that pay “online” for our next scramble in August).
The flag winners at Valley View were:
#1 Closest 2nd shot – Lenny Weick; #2 Closest Tee Shot (Ladies) – Kelley Rosburg;
#3 Closest 2nd shot – Ken Meier; #4 Longest Drive (Ladies) – Val Marshall;
#5 Longest Putt (Men) – Lorin Galvin; #6 Longest Putt – Nancy Gilliland;
#7 Closest 2nd shot – Deaun Trayer; #8 Closest Tee Shot (Men) – Ollie Pierce;
#9 Closest-in-four – Dee Bigge; #10 Closest 2nd Shot – Tracy Shutt;
#11 Longest Drive (Men) – Ollie Pierce; #12 Longest Putt – Lorin Galvin;
#13 Closest 2nd Shot – Marian Wascher; #14 Longest Putt (Ladies) – Marian Wascher;
#15 Closest Tee Shot – Lorin Galvin; #16 Longest Putt (Men) – Dave Francis;
#17 Closest Tee Shot – Tim White and #18 Closest Tee Shot (Ladies) – Joyce Stoural.
The flights were determined by total score, the winners were:
First flight,
1st place: Lorin and Pat Galvin, Larry Welch & Marian Wascher (63);
2nd place: Ken Meier, Val Marshall, Jan Soethout & Ann Luther (65);
3rd Place: Doug Kuhlers, Deaun Trayer, Sue Moskovits & Dave Francis (67).
Second flight,
1st Place: Randy Volquardsen, Nancy Gilliland, Fred Longberg & Tracy Shutt (71);
2nd place: Gene Hug, Karen Obermeier & Tim and Rita White (71);
3rd Place: Ollie and Marian Pierce, Larry Tjaden & Sue Spencer (72).
Third flight,
1st Place: Scott Brown, Dave Fixemer, Spencer Jacobs & Carol Bruner (76);
2nd place: Jeff Coplin, John Carlson, Dawn Bailey & Deb Bylund (78).
3rd Place: Bruce Fajen, Dale Koester, Bobbie Greenspan & Kelley Rosburg (78).
I’d like to point out a few things:
-
The golf course made an error in the 2nd flight. My team was announced the winner of the 2nd flight, it was actually Randy’s team; they won on the first playoff hole.
-
Dave Hiatt’s team tied for 3rd place in the 1st flight, but lost on the first playoff hole.
-
A prize was given to the highest score; there were two teams that were tied with 81. There was a 9-hole playoff to determine that winner.
