River Wilds in Blair is always a great place to play. They've got the old nine and the new nine, which gives the players different looks. Some are flat and straight away and some are different, (like the tee box behind the shed). I put a little pressure on River Wilds to try to do better than our first scramble in May, which they did, oh so well.
We enjoyed great weather, no heat, no humidity, cool breeze and nice enough to sit outside for dinner. If you remember the heat we had June…
Thanks to all those that helped me (this month and last), at the sign in desk and handing out money (who doesn't like that). A special thanks to those that were "placed on teams" for being flexible enough to play with "anybody;" sometimes you have more fun that way.
Here is a small problem that most don't think about when they sign up to play in our OSC events: I have to call the golf course one week before we play to give them a rough idea how many teams are playing (or paid). The golf course blocks off a certain amount of holes for "scramble play" and leaves the rest for public play.
For example: If only nine teams are signed up to play one week before our event, the golf course may block off nine holes for our event (usually 1, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 12, 11 & 10). If nine more teams sign up to play within the next six days, they have to place two teams on each hole because they only reserved nine holes. Make sense?
If we told them we had 18 teams (one week before we played), they'll usually spread the teams apart and use more holes (maybe even give us the entire course). This is why I request teams to sign up quicker than they do and NOT wait for the last week (the Sports Club way). Maybe people will catch on or maybe they won't.
It's time to pass on the torch. Ron Walton and Gary Lamb are no longer considered the Omaha Sports Club "Doughnut Scouts." That title will be handed over to Brad McGill. Brad actually called me the day before to remind me to bring doughnuts to the golf course.

August Scramble at Northridge CC
We've got a little history with Northridge CC. They saved my bacon a couple of times when Indian Trails (in Beemer) canceled on us, not once, but twice. In fact last year, it happened one week before our event. When I called, they never even heard of us. (funny huh?)
So last year, I decided to book Northridge again (seemed the thing to do). Northridge Country Club is 17 miles north of Blair on Highway 75. It's a great nine hole course that is very scenic and we’ll play twice around. Whispering Creek reminds me a little of Bent Tree and Woodland Hills, but Northridge CC reminds me a little of Arbor Links and Highlands in Lincoln (but only nine holes). And just so people know: I'll bring doughnuts, too.
For months, I worked on modifying the infamous pink ball format (which we played a few years ago at Table Creek and no one liked). This year, I questioned people, got different opinions and decided not to play the pink ball format this month at Northridge CC. (But the idea of playing the modified pink ball hasn't left my mind).
