The fall volleyball leagues are off to a good start, thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time and energy during the coed tryouts and those who organized the women's and the new men's league.
Our appreciation goes to Carol Martinez, Christine Shank, Shawn Watkins, Christy Watkins, Mark Nelson, Anne Nelson, Brandon Krivanek, Sarah Kelsey, Mark Nelson, Cyndee Kanabel, Krissy Jorgensen and Mike Feilmeier. Thanks also go to the women's league chair person, Janelle Eckoff, and the men's league co-chairmen, CJ Trader and Craig Schwenke.
We hope to have online registration and payments available for the 2010 Spring league registration. There may be a minimal charge to pay online, but the general consensus is that it will be well worth it.
The volleyball players had a very good showing at this year's Annual Affair. We were treated to free beer and wine and lots of very good food, thanks to OSC Vice President Bob Godek, who also played volleyball in the spring session.
Other volleyball players on the board of directors include Jo Anderson who is in charge of Sportscaster circulation, Joy Pudenz and Don Kusek who run the membership duties, and Bob Grinstead who does the happy hour socials. Joy also handles welcoming and Don has served as the treasurer and president. We have been represented well by these fine individuals and appreciate all that they do and give to the club.
As we begin this session, please remember to take care of the gyms, do not wear your street shoes on the courts, pick up all trash and be nice to our refs and each other. We are out there to have fun and hope to create lasting friendships.
I am looking for a league that would like to host the mid-season party. If you know of an establishment that is centrally located to all of the gyms and wouldn't mind having a few sweaty, thirsty and hungry players, please set up a date with me and let's have a good time socializing with each other.
The end of season party will be November 17 at Johnny Sortino's Pizza Parlor. Mark it on your calendar and plan to be there. Each team will be given one large single topping pizza and I hope some prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening. The party will start at 8:30 p.m. and go until they kick us out, which is usually 12:30 a.m.
Have a great season and be safe,
Joe Martinez
