Another session of OSC volleyball has began thanks to the many people who have volunteered their time.
I cannot remember how many of these tryouts I have been a part of, but I can remember who has been there with me every time. I so greatly appreciate the help that I have received from Christine Shank these many years. She has always been there to teach me how things run, and then to remind me many times of what needed to be done.
Many tasks were done by her without even being asked. It is honestly because of Christine’s many ideas that our volleyball club has grown the way it has. There is more that I could say, but I think you get the idea. I just wanted you to know that as a member and as a player, I appreciate Christine's involvement.
More thanks go to the volunteers who worked the tryouts this session. The Tuesday night helpers were Cyndee Kanabel, Christine Shank, Denise Hamilton, Gary Kampschneider, Mary Jorgensen, Mike Feilmeier, Jennifer Lee and Dee Haynie.
Thursday was almost canceled because of the wonderful Nebraska weather, but the facility stayed open for us and we had a very good turn out. Our volunteers that night were Krissy Jorgensen, Jennifer Lange, Ken Curran, Christine Shank, Denise Hamilton, Carol Martinez, Sarah Kelsey and Jennifer Lee.
Both nights ran smoothly because of these wonderful people and I do appreciate those that also volunteered to help. Shawn Watkins will be our ref coordinator, so please be nice to our refs. Joe Wolf is updating our standings on the volleyball web page.
There are once again six levels of coed, three levels of women’s and one level of men’s.
Our managers are Will Hoy-AA, Ken Curran-A, Tony Theisen-BB, Denise Hamilton-B, Mike Menke-B1 and Don Kusek and Deb Porter-B2.
With the poor weather, I need to stress the need to keep our street shoes off the gym floors. Please bring another pair of shoes to play in and remember to pick up all trash even if it is not ours.
It is time that we start thinking about candidates for the Omaha Sports Club board of directors. If you would like to run for office, please let me know. Being on the board does not require a lot of time. Honestly, it is a great way to meet people and give back to this great club.
Lastly, our end-of-season volleyball party is scheduled for March 16. It will be held at Johnny Sortino’s Pizza Parlor, 7880 L St. Mark this on your calendar. The party will start at 8:30 p.m. and go until they kick us out. If anyone or any league would like to host the party, please contact me. It would be nice to take a break and enjoy the party myself.
Have a safe season and we will see you at the bar.
