Summer session is just about over for three leagues and one league has just ended. I will post first and second place winners in September and hope to post pictures of them on our web site. I will no longer post pictures in our hard copy Sportscaster due to the excessive cost of the printing. I hope that one day we may be able to go completely paperless.
Coed volleyball leagues are here for us to have fun. I hope that all participants will keep this in mind when you play. I understand that the games may become intense, but please remember you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, keep your cool and do not make the refs issue any yellow cards.
It is time to sign up for the fall coed volleyball session, which will begin September 8. The application is available in the August Sportscaster and also on this web site. I do ask that you PLEASE send your application and fees in as soon as possible so that your name can be added to the tryout list and so that I do not have to enter so many people the week before tryouts. Sorry, but I type slow. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Concerning this fall session, we are going to “Go Green.” We will no longer make copies of the schedules and rosters for players. They will be sent to you in an email only. The schedules will be posted on the web site but not the rosters. This will save us a little money. Be sure to list your email address on your application. I hope that we will soon be able to register completely on line and be totally green.
Speaking of the web site, I still need someone to run the volleyball web duties. Nothing is too difficult, I promise. Contact me if you would be interested in giving to the club and helping this poor old tired volleyball chairman.
Last month, you were asked to comment on a possible change to the club's constitution that would lower the minimum age required to join the Omaha Sports Club from 21 to 19 ,which is the age of majority. Your comments were greatly appreciated and because of the overly positive feedback, there will be a constitutional amendment proposal regarding the minimum age for membership. You can vote on this proposal at the 2009 Annual Affair, which will be held September 11 at the DC Centre, 11830 Stonegate Circle. This proposal is very important to the growth of the Omaha Sports Club and to our volleyball leagues. I encourage you to show up and vote. We need a change.
Have a great summer,
Joe Martinez
